Well aliens in the Marvel universe are kind of snarky and sarcastic though, look at the Guardians. But I definitely would have appreciated some kind of differentiation between her personality as a Kree warrior and her personality as an Air Force pilot. They seem like the exact same person, just with different memories.

24:24 is exactly how I felt lol I didn’t feel invested at all in the character. But I know they had to do that so there’d be a twist and she’d remember her past. But I just didn’t care about the flashbacks of her past when she was a kid cuz it seemed like they were tryna create some sort of woman empowering moment. When the moment wasn’t, she was going against a non-gendered AI who even took the form of a woman... idk ????? Lol

The people reviewing movies should definitely be more diverse, I don't think she's really wrong about that but I do think the case has to be made that it's actually a problem because otherwise people will be kind of indifferent. The problem is the state of representation in general, the distribution of wealth and income in general. There aren't more black film critics because black people aren't doing too well economically. African-American wealth has remained virtually unchanged for the last 50 years. Let's work on fixing that and then we'll get our diversity. Let's fight against labor market discrimination in general. Speaking of Milwaukee, a Harvard study done in 2006 showed that a black person with a college degree and no criminal record has about the same chance to get hired as a white man with no college and a criminal record. In summation, let's do politics.

The point I think she's trying to make there is that these films have worth beyond their RT score, that "they're important". I agree. I mean there are bad movies out there that are just bad for society. AWIT is not that. I don't think it's necessarily super important either but the main character wearing her hair naturally is a good image I guess for young black girls. It's a pretty fantastical movie otherwise.

I don't really care for her speech there because I mean, like you guys say there are movies that are lot more "woke" than A Wrinkle in Time that got much much better reviews. I mean one of the negative reviews of Captain Marvel I read said it wasn't feminist enough and yeah, I probably would agree. The movie would not really be any different with a male lead.

8 tuntia sitten
BinaryStarofShaolin
BinaryStarofShaolin

Why the fuck is Mike trying to explain feminism? Good god you guys, stick to the script. Of course white women can be feminists but their feminism has to be intersectional. They have to be aware that any bigotry that they may face in life is still less pernicious than the bigotry faced by women of color who are yes, doubly oppressed. "White feminism" is a particular kind of feminism that third wave feminists broke away from but the point was that groups that fought primarily or only against sexism were inadequate and that the optimal feminist organization would fight against racism and other forms of oppression as well. Yes, part of the third wave strand was feminists of color organizing in affinity groups i.e. only with other feminists of color but that was only because white feminists had not yet assimilated the ideas of the third wave, or Combahee River Collective. These days almost every feminist is intersectional, white people too. I mean good grief the people holding the signs in the pictures you seemingly use as citations are white!

This movie isn't very good and it's not very feminist either. She was underestimated and denigrated by humans because of her gender but we see that in flashbacks. In The Dark Knight, there was an interesting idea brought up on how the birth of the Joker came about because of the birth of the Dark Knight; with every action there's an equal and opposite reaction. I know on the internet, today, there's a lot of personalities that have grown really annoying blasting third wave feminism in film. Whether with CM in this movie, or Rey in SW. But, none of this opposion would exist if third wave feminism working it's way in film existed. They're both made for each other. Since they're both needless and annoying. Strong females in film have been around for a while now, today, it's brought up, because ppl are bringing it up and placing it in the spotlight. The solution to all this is simple: one side needs to back out! I feel like when one side decides the to throw in the towel, the other side will give up too. But, both sides seem unwilling to do so, and seem more keen in ramping up the conflict. And, this, isn't going to end well. That's my feelings in all this.

C. Marvel's story isn't shown in chronological order and in full, because the movie is set up so that we follow her and know as much as her. It's a mystery why the Skrulls put false memories in her and the viewer is confused as she is. Later she learns about her past but never remembers it, and again she knows as much as we - some photos, flashbacks, and what others tells her. Also the doctor lady looks like a female David Bowie.

The problem with the Brie Larson speeches of the world is that they are messages of hate and persecution (in the most unoffensive and sterilized way possible of course). It's about attacking the majority: "how dare your rank and birth bestow on you opportunities and interests so many don't have the luxury of enjoying" (ironic). Speeches like this derail the point of what should be a message of positivity. They should be about those who rose above their trials and tribulations to make an impact on the industry. Who made it and can serve as role models for the struggling generations and next generations of people who dare to dream. That gets muddled and lost when you turn a vindictive claw to the majority. And it's what causes racial tension and corporate backpedaling or affirmative action. In a peaceful world we hope that we can be heard through political protest, not race-baiting or phobic criticism of the relatively faultless white male film critics xd.

Despite being the blandest movie ever, Captain Marvel is a lot of things to a lot of people. It’s the movie rotten tomatoes doesn’t want anyone to have an opinion on, the movie dumb bearded white guys are protesting, (Voice overlay of youtuber saying, “they’re so scared of people actually calling this movie out for what it is which is feminist propaganda. Now, I haven’t seen it…”) the movie other dumb bearded white guys are white knighting, the movie Brie Larson doesn’t want us to see (Voice overlay of Brie Larson saying, “I do not need a 40-year-old white dude… I don’t hate white dudes… am I saying that I hate white dudes? No…“), the movie that inspired a ton of cheap click bait articles from terrible online journalists who have no idea how rotten tomatoes works, the movie easily manipulated, Twitter obsessed weirdos have given a ton of free publicity to by convincing themselves this corporate product is a feminist cause, the movie that had charities started for it in order for underprivileged girls to be able to see which benefits absolutely nobody but Disney. (Buy these f*ckin poor kids some food instead, you f*ckers!) It’s CAPTAIN MARVEL! If the movie is a hit it’s because society has become enlightened enough to celebrate a female lead action movie... finally! If the movie is a flop it’s because of toxic online trolls... finally! No other explanations exist! Eat the multibillion dollar corporate slop and pretend it’s social justice, you weirdos! Thanks for making the world an embarrassing nightmare, everyone.

10:52 - the idea y'all are talking about isn't really that you have to be "doubly oppressed" (ie, a woman of color) to be a true femenist, it's that a lot of what white women use femenism for is for their own parity with white men, and stop there, when there are femenist issues that effect women of color which white women will ignore. (At least that's what I, a white guy, understand it as)

Fun Captain Marvel Comic Moment: during the events of Civil War II, Captain Marvel found a random person who claimed he could see the future. After treating his visions as gospel, arresting numerous people indefinitely without evidence, and getting several Avengers maimed and/or killed, she was confronted by Magneto. Apparently, she had sent a surveillance drone after him, and he returned it to her (in multiple pieces). When he asked if her pet prophet had seen him in a vision, she dodged the question, labeled him a 'person of interest,' and then said "We're broadening our scope." What follows is taken word-for-word from the comic: Magneto: "Yes, this is how it starts. Next come the detention camps." Captain Marvel: "Right, I forgot. You're that guy online who compares everything to Hitler." Now, I won't say it's the _worst_ thing...but it's still pretty high up there on the list of 'Terrible Things to Say to an Actual Holocaust Survivor.'

Having not seen anything put out around this film, no interviews or anything, I quite liked it. Not amazing or anything, but I felt Brie Larson came across as genuinely unhinged, which helped with the entire narrative of her fractured mind and memories. I generally quite liked the unconventional structure. I think the fact that it's a prequel really helps, as at the start you're like "the kree, I vaguely remember them, they were in one of the other films, weren't they?" and then after you finally remember "Oh yeah, they were the bad guys of Guardians, weren't they!" the film then sees fit to start dropping Ronan the accuser on you. So many plot holes in the greater MCU though. So many.

The entire concept of this movie is moderately offensive to me as a consumer. I've been invested in this franchise for over a decade, and they shoehorn an unnecessary character that could have easily been put in after the characters I care about die and/or leave. In addition, the lead is bland, poorly-written, and played by an ignorant bigot. A Black Widow movie would've been better, as she's actually interesting and hasn't gotten much development recently. I wanted to see the characters I've known and loved for over ten years take down Thanos, not this shell of a character.

PS: captain marve flew in space with a helmat on through the entire film which makes me feel she has to wear it to breath but the last part of the movie shows her in space hovering with scrulls with no helmat on, hum a little inconsistant. i know its a nit pick but the film kept pulling me out with this stuff. I enjoyed the movie myself, even if it was a bit under the usual Marvel standards. I think it was a good film and more than anything I saw it as a piece of a puzzle fitting into Avengers 4 than a stand-alone film so I wasn't expecting it to be this huge film. For what it was, it was good, enjoyable. I have to add though, I agree with Jay in the sense of Captain Marvel not having a defined character. It just felt off to me that she tended to be so "serious" for lack of a better word throughout all of the film. My take on this is, as a character, she didn't seem to change that much or evolve from being brain-washed to realizing who she was and what she could do. If she as a character was a tone (as in sound), it wouldn't have changed at all for the whole length of the film, so, that's the only thing I didn't like, but the rest I was fine with.
